Ethan Van Grunsven Wins Grand Prize at the 2022 CEDC’s HATCH Business Pitch Competition

Chippewa Falls, WI – December 9, 2022 – Sconny Company, a Wisconsin Entrepreneur studying business at UW-Eau Claire, won the $5,000 at the 2022  and first place at the CEDC’s HATCH Business Pitch Competition. The Hatch event – a shark tank like business competition – held annually during Startup Chippewa Valley Week is aimed at encouraging Entrepreneurship and solidifying the region’s startup ecosystem.

Ethan Van Grunsven, founder of the Sconny Company, an ambitious 19-year-old college student whose key objective is to offer chic, high-quality garments that represent Wisconsin without affiliations to universities or sports teams was chosen by a panel of five judges. Ethan plans to utilize the award money to increase production and brand recognition of his company.

In addition, over 80 audience members voted for their choice [People’s Choice Award] and selected Karli Ertmer of Little Turtles ISR Swim School, LLC as their favorite entrepreneurial idea.  The People’s Choice Award winner received three months of coworking at COLAB, up to $100 in graphic design assistance from Capstone Creative, and $500 certificate for Badgerland Printing.

The HATCH Business PITCH Competition utilized stakeholders from University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Red Letter Grant, COLAB, Chippewa Valley Technical College, Eau Claire Economic Development Corporation, and St. Croix Business Innovation Center to identify top entrepreneur contestants for the competition. Esteemed local business leaders – Jamie Leibrandt of Northwestern Bank, Susan Marcott of Applied Data Consultants, Steve Gerrish of Badgerland Printing, Ed Holand of C & N Manufacturing, and Sheri Scheidler of Scheidler Solutions represented the judging panel. Meanwhile, Jim Ward, President of Applied Data Consultants and Elite Extra in Eau Claire, WI, delivered the motivational keynote speech.
